Freesbees was one of my Senior projects at Portland State University. It is a mobile application the goal of which is to help users find free stuff given away by other people,
as well as to allow them to publish their own belongings that they do not need anymore.
I came to this idea after thinking about how many times I have seen free stuff laying next
to the roads in various neighborhoods waiting for someone to pick it up. Unfortunately, quite often people who really need those items are simply now aware of the giveaway. Not having a way to spread the word creates problems not only for the owners, but for other people who are in need of some free stuff as well.
After having done some research, I found out that many apps with similar goal have
thesame problems. They are not good-looking and utilize quite outdated interface which
can negatively impact user experience. Second, they use posts taken from other websites,
this makes users to go back and forth between different pages. On top of the that, quite frequently those apps showed posts of things that were not actually given away, but
rather sold which is completely opposite to what other people are using those apps for.
Freesbees was designed to solve these problems. The app has a nice and friendly design
that will make it pleasant to the eyes to use. It has several functions that allow its users to find free stuff in different ways. Freesbees only displays the posts that were created in the app so that users no longer need to move around different web pages. All the communication is also performed in the app to make it more organized.
