Vegetable Booklet was one of my class projects that I did in my Sophomore year
(2020-2021) at Portland State University. Since that the booklet has gone through
many revisions. The version presented here is the most recent update of the project.
The challenge was to create a unique layout and outstanding visuals for the booklet to not only present different types of information, but also to look interesting and appealing to the readers. The text for the booklet was provided in the beginning.
In the early stage of iterating, I thought that quite often modern books about gardening look underwhelming with basic boring photos and layouts. That is why I decided to create a set of illustrations in order to give the book a more unique look. The illustration style was inspired by the works of a French fashion illustrator René Gruau. As for the layout, I strived to present the topic of gardening in an unusually minimal, sophisticated, and elegant way while keeping that classical and traditional feel by using a combination of italic serif fonts.
